About The Project

Built into the natural slope of a West Chermside block, this pool feels like it has always belonged. Designed for a young family with two energetic boys, the brief was simple but ambitious: create a safe and stylish space that blends into the site, adds value to daily life, and becomes a place the whole family genuinely wants to spend time in.
The design embraced the elevation of the block. Rather than fight against it, the pool was partially raised, giving it a sense of structure and strength while reducing the need for heavy retaining walls. The result is a beautifully balanced outdoor area, anchored by the pool but softened by the surrounding materials and textures.
The pool is created to complement the corner of the back yard and holds 45,000 litres which features a smooth 100% glass bead interior. Calypso glass mosaics run along the waterline, steps and benches, catching the light and adding subtle colour and movement to the water. Coping was completed using silver travertine in a crisp square edge, while NewTechWood composite decking in teak adds warmth and practicality to the surrounding space.
One of the standout elements is the hidden Sunbather pool cover. Discreetly built into the deck, it disappears completely from view when not in use. It’s a clean and clever solution that keeps the space tidy and thermally efficient without sacrificing style. As a relatively new product, it required close coordination with the supplier, and the team worked carefully to make sure everything was installed to spec from the beginning.

The outcome

Since completion, the pool has become part of the family’s rhythm. The boys jump in every chance they get. The parents use it to unwind and keep an eye on the action. The design draws them outside for more than just a swim. It’s where the day starts with breakfast on the deck, where sunset conversations unfold, and where quiet evenings settle in beside the water. This pool has become more than a feature, it’s now a meaningful part of how the family lives at home.
